Explore Your Archives is a national campaign coordinated by The National Archives and the Archives and Records Association. It aims to encourage everyone to explore the fantastic variety of archives and record centres across the country.
We have events taking place at our Heritage Centres in Somerset and Devon providing opportunities to get involved with this brilliantly interactive national campaign.

A Royal Miscellany
Inspired by the exhibition at the Museum of Somerset of Henry VII: The First Royal Portrait, Somerset Archives and Local Studies will be displaying a range of documents with royal connections, at the Somerset Heritage Centre. This exhibition will run for one day only, from 10.30 am to 3.30 pm. Entry is free, with donations to the work of the South West Heritage Trust gratefully received. Drop-in (no booking required.)

Searchroom Introduction and Refresher Sessions
Are you new to research at the Somerset Heritage Centre, or unsure about what you can find in the searchroom? These bookable, one-to-one sessions are designed to help you make the most of future visits. The hour-long sessions provide an opportunity to be guided round the searchroom by a member of the team, and to be shown how to use the facilities at a leisurely pace.
Sessions are available from 9.30 am. Booking is essential, as places are limited. The sessions are free, with donations to the work of the South West Heritage Trust gratefully received.

Launch of Devon Deciphered, by John Booker
Devon Heritage Centre volunteer and retired archivist, John Booker, will speak about the compilation and writing of Devon Deciphered, his recently published book relating to palaeography, with specific reference to Devon documents.
Copies of the book will be on sale, and John will be happy to sign them.
The event will run from 2.00 pm to 4.00 pm. Entry is free, with donations to the work of the South West Heritage Trust gratefully received.
